Hi folks,

I am new to this and have a question.

Does anyone know if Ubuntu can read a Treo 90 device (from handspring) (I store on this my addresses). I connected it to the USB port and press the link button but there was no sign of life from the PC. Is there something I need to install?

Thanks,

But you need to add a configure some software.

The below link is a HowTo:

Hi,

I really appreciate your help. I installed it and came to the stage below(from the link
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PalmtopHowto )

I tried typing this but was not sure I did it right. I pressed Alt2 and typed it there. Is this what I was supposed to do? The computer said "Could not open the location:

'file;///1ST /DEV/TTYusb*

--Dani

Hit the sync button on the Treo's cable.

In a Terminal type:

ls /dev/ttyUSB*

To make sure ttyUSB0 an ttyUSB1 are there. They ONLY show up there when the sync button is pushed then they go away.

Open Jpilot. Hit the sync button on the left. It should sync.

Another thing to try:

Configure your Palm desktop software (jPilot, etc.) to use the device "/dev/pilot" (rather than "/dev/ttyUSB...")
and try the hotsync. I believe that Ubuntu creates that device whenever you press the hotsync button on the cradle to simplify things a bit.

I Let me know if I at least did the steps correctly:

1. I opened jpilot and inprefers/setting typed /dev/pilot

2. I hit the button on the treo

3. i open a terminal window (Applic/acces/terminal) and typed ls /dev/pilot (that was based on the web page instrucions) The computer said /dev/pilot No such file or directory

4. With a sinking heart I still tried to open jpilot and press the Sync button, but it did not work

(I went tot the file directory and found dev directory but no a pilot file.)

Here's another thing to try...

In Ubuntu, go to the System -> Preferences -> Palm OS Devices

See if this process gives you any better results.

I believe this application is intended to interface with the Evolution program that is a standard application on Ubuntu desktop systems.

Thanks,

I tried it. Did not work yet but there seems to be help instructions on this. I will work on this and report.
